The SKP application is currently open for Three-Year-Olds.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
“It is the mission of the South Kingstown Preschool (SKP) to create a loving, nurturing, and productive environment, which respectfully embraces the value of each child, family, faculty member, and community partner. We maintain high expectations for all children, with the fundamental understanding that each child can learn, given instruction that is built upon their unique strengths and learning style. By committing to putting the needs of children first and pooling our resources as needed, we strive to assist each child in reaching their full potential during these precious and important early years. ”
We provide integrated classrooms with both typically developing peers and students with disabilities, giving all children the opportunity to learn based on their individual needs.
Our classrooms are dedicated to providing high-quality education to our early learners through the InvestiGator Club curriculum, which builds upon children’s natural curiosity about the world and their place in it. Through “purposeful inquiry”, children learn to use their senses, ask questions and find answers in a supportive, print-rich environment. We support each child’s social-emotional development through the framework of the trauma-informed, evidence-based Conscious Discipline program.
It is our expectation that provided with the foundation of a strong early childhood education, children will demonstrate the confidence and readiness skills necessary to transition successfully to kindergarten.
The Rhode Island Early Learning & Developmental Standards (RIELDS) are used as a framework for implementing high-quality early childhood programming and supporting children in what they should know, understand, and be able to do as they enter kindergarten. These standards provide a developmental sequence of skill acquisition that each child will reach at their own pace and in their own way. The RIELDS can be accessed online in English and Spanish at www.RIELDS.com.
All classrooms are staffed by (1) certified teacher and (1) paraprofessional. Additional services, including speech, occupational and physical therapy are provided to students who require their direct, specialized instruction as part of their special education services. A transdisciplinary team approach is used, enabling service providers an opportunity to share information across disciplines to better instruct students. In this approach, teachers and therapists collaborate and provide classroom-based support that all children in our program may benefit from.
Building relationships with families based on mutual respect and collaboration has been key to the success of our program. The role of family is crucial in a child’s education and development. We encourage open and frequent communication and look forward to creating opportunities for parents to take an active role in supporting their child’s education.
In order to assure a fair and equitable system, any vacancies open to community peers who are typically developing will be filled through a lottery each school year.
Community Peers must have a Child Outreach screening, and pass in all areas. Community Peers must be potty trained prior to attending SKP.
